Different
Old soldier, please come homeFor the war is long overand you are now fighting alone Painful, surely it will beto shed your armor with dignity Having no clue on what might be revealedBravely still fighting armiesthat never were there Old soldier, please come homeYour loved ones are waitingPlease don't leave them alone Shall I now write some pretty words?Words that are hard to pronounce but lovely when heard Or shall I lie?For lie, we all must dobut from these lies what terrible truths are told So let us be silent you and I But others may misconstrue, and think we're being rude Where then should we go?and what then should we say? We must be different you and Ifor others seem to converse just fine Yes, but such strange discourseDo you know what they imply? Then we're different you and I?If we're different should we change? What then will we speak ofwhen we are all the same? Do I dare to toss a pebble into this motionless sea?Or shall I just walk away? Secure in the knowledge that these waterswere never meant for me

Pigeons
Like wild animals caught in a cage We bite, tear, and claw at our flesh and bones Desperately, destructively With madness and rage Seeking to escape the steel prison that has captured, tortured, and brutalized our souls Screaming with agony and delight we pray for something, anything to appear or change Moan, groan, howl, Like animals gone insane Let me call your attentionto a man closing his heartand whistling a happy tune He swore it wouldn’t hurtthis timebut his tearshe just can't hide Love he believesis the worst of liesAs he gazes upon the worldwith his cold orphan eyes A shield will soonreplace this ragged worn disguise You have shown them allhe thinksno one could fool you His life has always beenbut a series of accidentsawaiting an emergency room Soon there will beno evidence that hewas ever even here He knows thisfully understands itbut still, he doesn’t care No one will ever know his secretsor the treasuresthat he held so dear He will die alone and forgottenleft with justhis twisted sense of pride Only some pigeons will miss himwhen his park bench is emptyon that day he dies

Burnt Offerings
I’m in a burning buildingMy first thoughts are to fleeSave myself from the vile smokeFilling up my lungsBut...There are many floorsWith rooms on every floorI can hear the cries of othersTheir frantic pleasI feel a moral obligation to helpAs many as possibleI begin to open doorsSome contain living peopleOthers only the remainsOf what once were human beingsI try and get as many of the livingOut as possibleI am not strong enough to carry them allThey must be able to walk themselvesEven then I can only guide them to safetyI’m in danger of smoke inhalation myselfPlus, I’m not sure which doorsI open will contain even more fire and smokeWhen I open doorsAnd only find the deadI become discouragedIt’s so sad! Some won’t even let me assist themTheir capacity to differentiate rightFrom wrongHas corrodedThey grab on to meand won't let goThe smoke starts to affect my own judgmentI begin to use force to help some fleeBut this only makes me weakerAnd fills me with a strange dark despairI begin to question my own sanityIs it even worth getting out?Where so many good people have died?Perhaps, a worse fate awaits us allOn the outsideAlthough that doesn’t seem possibleI rescue manyBut I don'thave the strengthto go onIt's now become impossibleFor me to leave or breathAnd...There is no one left to free meThe smoke slowly extinguishesMy own sensesStill, my final coherent thoughtsAre these:At least I triedMaybe, I could have done moreBut...At least I triedI think...I had been placedin this building To rescue somebut ultimately to dieFor my attemptsthousands of times

Soulless?
I’m always hearing what a good or bad soul a person hasbut are we even sure we have a soul?I have felt a soulin many animalsand would not question their road to divinityif such a thing existsBut, humansreally?I’m not so sureAre we really doingsomething as a speciesthat shows overwhelmingevidence that we have souls? What sad, pathetic creaturesScurrying along with wanton disregardSuch ugly savages are we-Blindly destroying all that's beautiful and freeLaying to wastethe very elements we need to surviveWhat stupid, arrogant creatures we-believing this land is for us to do as we pleaseAll in nature must live in harmonyso it is whispered upon the cold night's breezeThere is but one species without honor or dignityMother Earth protect your homeRemove this tumor before malignancies growWhat sad, pathetic creatures we-believing we're the ownersand control of nature is our destinyWe will be but a blip upon the geological sceneParasites that once roamed this earth devouring recklessly

Horizons Unknown
I feel like a stranger inside my head Cold, lonely, and hanging on by a thread Millions of sparkling stars shine at night but by day each just goes its separate way I followed them all when I was young only to return to where I'd begun The garden was so pure and fresh by the pristine water, I would rest my head Everything now just seems sad and overgrown All that is still living only aches within my bones Cascading prisms that fall in summer's night skies Whatever I felt or knew to be true was whisked away by that summer's night moon I'm an empty vessel without any sails A ship adrift towards horizons unknown Everything that means anything In time just drifts away Where are those sweet smiles and laughter of yesteryear? We sail the tide Ride the wave Only to crash Unto a barren beach someday Footprints firmly imprinted in the sand Until the ocean sweepsthem off To distant lands None of it was ever supposed to have lasted But it sure was great while it was here Perhaps, somehow we could return in another space and time It's doubtful butyou never knowthere are infinite worlds

The Haunted
Fevered and illwithout a careDesperately clinging to each momentas even more disappear In vacant lotsthe unearthly shrill is heardIt is near I hear itwithin my own haggard breathsI see it in the dead girl’s eyesIt lingers in the fetid air No longer does it try and hideIt demands its presence be known Troubled, disheveled, and confusedI feel it spreading through me The great tormentorof insightThe end of the magnificentflickering light Let the night comeand blanket me inside its darkeerie shadowy world I don’t want myself to be seenNeither living nor deadI can no longer pretend Truth is just a liethat has yet to be uncoveredHow can anyone have a firm grip on reality? When reality is nothing morethen spoon-fed fabrications It may taste good going downbut one day you must come to termswith the poison inside This world is a landmine of deceptionsRuled by sleight of handand misdirection Look to the lost… The bewildered and strange Look towards those who look away Look to ones without the gallant faces Look to those who vanish Without traces Seek out ones Who have no interest in you Run with the haunted the fearless and crazed Seek them out now Or on any given day For we are always around and we aren't going away...

Storms
White sandy soft serene beaches Silky crystal clear water A tinge of sparkling sapphire casually dancing upon the waves The Caribbean breeze whispers of love, eternal promise and sweet romance Rainbow clouds appear upon the misty horizon A storm is brewing far off in the distance I can smell the rain suspended in the air A shadow of annoyance passes through the tranquil afternoon I shed a tear for I know what awaits us Paradise will be destroyed not by the weather but by my own inner storms I'm prepared for death Can handle a terminal disease But when something small happens It will break me and kill all my civility It's always the little things that destroys harmony I travel far and spendlots of money for peace of mind But unfortunately no matter where I go there I am An unexpected rain can literally drive me insane A slight interruption in the mundane Can take my rationality away A thousand things can go wrong in a day Why must they all fill me with rage? My mind is like an angry ocean In which everything beautiful will eventually drown

Morning Star
I met the devil and I am he I met god and she is me Death resides in the room next door But nothing living has ever been there before Our time is short Our days are few Nothing alive can ever break through Everything had to be what it was or nothing could be what it is Inside the shadow of a realm that few have ever found I breathe heavily The souls of dead strangers enter me As I journey toward the cemetery There’s a lady who lives in the burial ground Who sometimes sings for me I think she is an angel Shrouded in a gown of mystery When I lie beside her Her spirit flows through me Disembodied voices wage war fiercely Invisible armies fighting endlessly I float in and out of consciousness Through deliriums no man should ever see I walked alone with demons Who defend all who believe A dark foreboding presence lives inside of me Any god that could create such worlds should die in misery I dance within the ashes of our scorched earth The beginning and ending are never what we’ve conceived The cloud will drift like darkness does And strangle itself within the howling windsof dying love I’ll always be here alone a silent witness Within the ghost forest amongst the barren leafless trees...

The Meadow
Here was once a rich vibrant meadowof tall green grassChildren used to fly kites and play hopscotchOld men walked and dreamed of their youthCouples held hands and talked of the gloriousfutures they planned to shareThey would smell the fragrance of spring flowersAnd walk around a clear blue pondfor hours and hoursMothers helped their toddlers feed the ducksas they waddled by the streamThat once flowed through the meadowso lazily and peacefullySquirrels ran up and down the treesin perfect poetic symmetry Now, the beautiful landscape has been upturnedIt is filled with bulldozers and crude boisterous men eating sandwichesConstruction signs and orange tape litterthe landscapeThe ducks are gonethe trees are no moreNo kite will ever againset sailThe meadow has been ripped and rapedthe ground has been slaughteredAll one sees now is...worms, dirt, and rocksSoon it will be a parking lotfor the new Wal MartProgress so they claimWhatever the nameIt’s an appalling sight

Cancerous Words
There was a cancer in his words It poured unto the page like the rot-gut whiskey that dribbled down his chin It’s a penitentiary, he mumbled an insane asylum We’ve all gone mad Why is it no one sees this? His bottle (His strength) spilled upon the keyboard he didn’t seem to care He typed He screamed None of this is real It’s a comedy we are performers Put here for some foul, sadistic creature’s amusement Where are you? Show yourself you hideous beast I want to chew on your flesh as you spit out my soul The ashtray was on fire His cigar had lit the used pieces of Kleenex that he used to wipe at his bloody sores Still, he typed Still he screamed The windows are bars but the prison lies beyond In the factories and corporate halls Lingering lifelessly inside the malls INSIDE US ALL And every day it's just more of the same Numbing mindless pointless, agonizing endless repetition I WANT OUT I WANT OUT SHOW YOURSELF Torment me, no more I want to be eaten aliveby a rabid dog from hellI want to hear the soundsof my bones being crushedCHOPCHOP, CHOPCRUNCH, CRUNCHMUNCH, MUNCHI want the creatureto consume meBut I’ll fight backWith my arms swinging wildlyhoping against all oddsfor that lucky sucker punchI want to watch my fleshbeing shredded from my bonesAs his mighty fangsrip into my skullI want to hear my mind sayit has finally had enoughThe dog was always going to get meJust like one day he’ll get youBut I want to me a witnessI want to smellhis fetid, demonic odorAs I draw in my final breath Then with a vacant thud He fell to the floor I awoke the next day with an empty whiskey bottle in hand I was alone just like I always am

Vanished
First, there was only the darknessthen hundreds of lightning boltsMenacing winds slashed through my bodylike heroin through a junkie’s vein My eyelids shutteredthen closedA horrific pressureclasped down upon my chest My body felt defiled Children vanish every dayand go to terribleunspeakable places Trust me...I KNOW Do you ever feel like you are in a cartoon world? Controlled by people with marshmallow brains? Spiraling down an endless water ride that leads only to a darker side Always waiting on something that will never arrive On a train In a cool mountain rain Remember those monsters that use to live under your bed? As you got older you realized they were all in your head But it doesn’t make it better and they won’t go away Those monsters will haunt you till your dying days My mind detached itselffrom the icy cold depths I walked outsideit was sunny and warm Children played kickballin the streetStill cozy in their cottony worldof innocenceHow I wish I could savethem allFrom the impending terrible fall
